Peja (Pejë)

Peja (locally Pejë/Peć) is one of the most important cities in western Kosovo, and the main gateway to the Rugova Valley and the Accursed Mountains (Bjeshkët e Nemuna) range.

Patriarchate of Peć Monastery

On the edge of the city, at the entrance to Rugova Valley, stands the Patriarchate of Peć Monastery, a Serbian Orthodox monastery founded in the 13th century and made up of four interconnected churches. It was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2006 as part of the “Medieval Monuments in Kosovo” site.

Rugova Canyon

Rugova Canyon stretches around 25km, with depths reaching 1,000m in places, making it one of Europe’s longest and deepest river canyons. It’s home to the White Drin waterfall and offers hiking, rock climbing, and kayaking on the clear waters of the Rugova River, alongside traditional villages along the way.

The Old Bazaar and Bajrakli Mosque

Peja’s town centre is home to its historic old bazaar and the Bajrakli Mosque. The city is also the gateway to the Boge ski resort in winter.
