Jajce

Jajce is a city in central Bosnia, about 160 km from Sarajevo and 65 km from Travnik (roughly an hour’s drive). It’s the only town in Bosnia where a natural waterfall flows right in the town center.

Jajce Waterfall forms where the Pliva and Vrbas rivers meet, standing 17 meters tall — the town’s most striking and most-photographed landmark.

Above the town, Jajce Citadel sits atop a pyramid-shaped hill, enclosed by roughly 1,300 meters of defensive walls, and is one of the best-preserved fortified capitals of the medieval Bosnian Kingdom. Jajce was the capital of the independent Kingdom of Bosnia at its height, and served as the kingdom’s last stronghold before it fell under mounting Ottoman military pressure. The old town is today a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage status.
