Prokosko Lake

Prokoško Lake is a glacial lake nestled in the heart of Vranica Mountain, at an altitude of about 1,636 meters, locally known as the “Mountain Eye.” It’s about 70 km west of Sarajevo, near the town of Fojnica.

The lake reaches a depth of up to 13 meters and is one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most important protected natural landmarks. It’s also one of the few remaining habitats of the alpine newt, a rare amphibian that serves as a symbol of Vranica Mountain’s biodiversity.

Green mountain meadows and hiking trails surround the lake, drawing nature lovers and hikers, making it a popular full-day destination from Sarajevo for those seeking mountains and quiet away from more crowded spots.
