Sutjeska National Park

Sutjeska National Park is Bosnia and Herzegovina’s oldest national park, set in a valley between the Maglić, Volujak, and Snježnica mountains, on the border with Montenegro in the country’s southeast.

The park contains Maglić, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s highest peak at 2,386 meters, which also sits directly on the international border with Montenegro.

Sutjeska is also home to the Perućica primeval forest, one of the last remaining old-growth forests in Europe, spanning about 1,434 hectares under strict nature-reserve protection. UNESCO describes the forest as “never fully explored,” and it’s considered one of the most important forests on the European continent — sometimes nicknamed “the lungs of Europe.”
