Traffic Fine System in Albania
Albania’s traffic fine system is a core part of how road discipline and traffic flow are regulated, applied strictly to help protect pedestrians and drivers alike.
- Driving against traffic direction: licence suspended for 3 months.
- Driving with an expired licence: fine of $100-500, up to $400.
- Driving a foreign-registered vehicle more than a year after the main customs process: fine of $50-200 and vehicle impoundment.
- Exceeding the minimum/maximum speed by more than 10 km/h: fine of $10-30.
- Exceeding the speed limit by more than 10 km/h but not more than 30 km/h: fine of $20-40 (previously $20-60).
- Exceeding the speed limit by more than 30 km/h but not more than 50 km/h outside residential areas, or more than 20 km/h but not more than 40 km/h within residential areas: fine of $50-500 and other measures.
Additional rules cover licence suspensions, fines, and criminal proceedings for driving under the influence of alcohol, with penalties increasing in severity based on blood alcohol level, whether an accident occurred, and the time of day. Fleeing an accident scene, driving after police have removed vehicle documents, and similar violations carry fines ranging roughly $100-500, alongside licence cancellation and possible imprisonment in more serious cases.
Because these figures were not independently re-verified this session, always confirm current fine amounts and traffic rules with an official Albanian source or your embassy before driving.
