Gjakova’s old bazaar is the oldest in Kosovo, built in the 16th century around the Hadum Mosque, commissioned by Hadum Sulejman Agha between 1594 and 1595, alongside a madrasa, library, caravanserai, hammam, and market — establishing the city as an early regional hub. The bazaar suffered major damage during the 1999 Kosovo War and was restored in two phases, first in 2001–2002 and again in 2016–2017.

Traditional Kulla Architecture

Gjakova is also known for its traditional stone “kulla” tower houses, built in an older defensive style, with surviving examples still standing in the city’s old quarters.
