Vrelo Bosne
Vrelo Bosne (Source of the Bosna River) is a protected natural park at the foot of Mount Igman, in the Ilidža area near Sarajevo. This is where the Bosna River springs to life — the same river that supplies fresh water to the entire city of Sarajevo.
A grand promenade about 3.5 km long, lined with maple and horse chestnut trees, connects the river spring to the Ilidža thermal resort — the longest tree-lined path in Bosnia and Herzegovina, known for its shaded, peaceful atmosphere.
The park is a popular spot for family outings, where visitors can enjoy traditional Bosnian coffee and take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage (fijaker) along the Grand Promenade (Velika Aleja), from the tram terminal to the park entrance and back. This tradition dates back more than a century and remains a central part of the Vrelo Bosne experience today.
