Old Bazaar, Gjirokastër

Gjirokastër’s Old Bazaar is one of the most important historic and cultural landmarks in the city, and has served as a commercial hub for centuries.

The bazaar’s roots go back to the medieval period, where locals and visitors alike have come to trade goods for generations. It’s known for its narrow, winding stone lanes and traditional buildings with real historic character.

The bazaar is home to shops selling local products — handwoven textiles, traditional jewellery, hand-woven rugs, ceramics, and other crafts — reflecting the region’s cultural heritage. Alongside the shops, traditional cafes and restaurants serve local dishes, giving visitors a chance to pause and sample Albanian hospitality and cuisine.

The bazaar also serves as a social and cultural hub, hosting traditional events and festivals throughout the year.
