Muriqan-Sukobin is the main southern border point between Albania and Montenegro, on the busy coastal route between Shkodër and Ulcinj.

Location

The Albanian side sits in the village of Muriqan (today part of Shkodër municipality), while the Montenegrin side is the village of Sukobin, part of Ulcinj municipality — the crossing runs over the Bojana River.

History

The agreement to open this joint border point between the Albanian and Montenegrin governments was signed on 17 January 2007 and entered into force on 24 May 2007.

The crossing operates 24/7, and is one of the rare crossings run “under one roof,” with Albanian and Montenegrin authorities’ procedures intermingled. On weekdays outside August, crossing usually takes under 10 minutes; summer weekend afternoons can see waits of 30-45 minutes.
